Week 4 – Wildcard conversation was great!

Our wilcard conversation, as usual, did not disappoint!

    • Wayne kicked us off with his goal to create space to REALLY take a vacation, because he simply doesn’t do it. That led to a conversation about part of leadership is not having to be there. We all acknowledged we feel value in “being there to save the day,” but that we also have to work to not be needed. Deep!

    • Dan has been thinking about the primary mindsets and frameworks that are used in business – financial and technical — and that we need to make space for psychological and emotional frameworks to better address the needs of people. I really like this framing!

    • Caralee was so inspired by what people shared last week that she rethought the pre-planning patient visit workflow she had been working on. The approach she was using was aligned with best practices, but just wasn’t workig for the team. She asked, what if we looked at this as a blank slate? What could we do? She and a colleague both saw ways to simplify it and they are going to TRY the new approach!

    • Stop thinking consultants can give you the answers! We lamented the over-reliance on consultants who deliver answers, processes, and solutions that do not actually work for the organization and we end up not using them. Instead, invest in your own staff to research and design workflows and solutions that actually work. Since they are addressing it, there will be more buy in and iteration to make it succeed!

    • And we discussed the dominant “alpha male” form of leadership that prioritizes portraying confidence, having all the answers, minimizing uncertainty and valuing efficiency. We wondered how we can start building awareness and momentum for human-centered leadership that values curiosity, vulnerability, and collaboration to actually address the challenges our organizations face instead of pretending to address them.
