Week 3 – Gathering Design Ideas
In Friday’s live we had a great conversation about to be more intentional in designing gatherings that are more meaningful and successful. I can’t possibly list all the fantastic insights here, but here’s a few that stuck out for me.
- Be laser focused on your purpose. The why of gathering is the core principle to design around. Dig deeper than “to work on a project” – what is the very specific purpose for getting folks together for that exact moment.
- Infusing creative pattern interrupts into a gathering isn’t about being wacky or artsy. It’s about intentionally changing conditions to elicit new ideas, practice different ways of working together, and drive momentum.
- What if you approached the next gathering you plan/host as an act of service to those attending? How might that change the experience and outcome?
- Who gets invited is important! Thinking about the spectrum of inclusion for a gathering can help you shape the guest list. Most folks lean toward one extreme or the other: narrowly exclusive or broadly inclusive. Most gatherings benefit from an approach somewhere between those two.
- Early investments in relationship building and community cultivation for the win! Go slow to start to go fast down the road.
