Week 2 – Five See & Show Strategies
Seeing and Showing things can foster reflection and analysis, clearer understanding, and a desire to change or improve. It’s is all about injecting more tangibility into our work.
In our Friday live Chris shared five See and Show strategies.
- Show a Picture. The old adage “a picture is worth a thousand words” is true! A well sourced photo (especially one you take yourself) can convey complex ideas and provide rich context to support the story you’re telling.
- Play a Video. Show someone’s experience of doing the thing you’re working on, share a testimonial or an insight, or lean into an inspirational Ted Talk and allow someone else to make your point for you. You can use it as a jumping off point to reflect on and enhance your message.
- Show an Anatomy/Inventory. A visual collection of objects is inherently interesting and creates curiosity and openness to insight. An anatomy or inventory helps us see the individual parts of a whole, better understand how they work together, and highlight the item’s qualities and unique characteristics.
- Do a Demonstration. Demos ground people in what something is really like. It creates an opportunity to experience firsthand, breaks down unfounded assumptions, eliminates the mysterious or unknown, and engages people in a way that leads to deeper understanding.
- Go on a Field Trip. Yes, it’s just like visiting the crayon factory in elementary school! Field trips grant us special access to a place to experience it in a way that is different from our day-to-day. It creates an opportunity to see a place/thing/process with fresh eyes.
